Today was a successful start of our 5-day children’s camp in Kibera. We partnered with Kidogo Early Years, which means the children in our camp are between 4-8 years of age. This is our first ever camp of young children only, and it is exciting! The turnout was encouraging, and the day was colorful and full of dancing, singing, coloring, and lots of play. We explored each child’s identity, and their values.
One activity that resonated with us was when the children were asked to draw a picture of what they want to be in the future, with the idea being to provoke a futuristic way of thinking. These young children took the exercise and made it their own by telling stories that were heart wrenching and beautiful. As little as they are, they were aware of their environment and aspirations, which was very impressive!
The children opened their hearts to us, and we feel blessed to be a part of this camp. All started well...Tuesday here we come!
